Graduate of the Law Bachelor Program should have the following general and field-specific competencies;

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

Has a wide range of basic peculiarities, principles, institutions, material and procedural norms of national law system, and in the field of specialization (public, private, blood or international law) in-depth knowledge that will be reflected in the knowledge of subfield structures, institutes and specialized subjects. The graduate understands the essence of law and the importance of the fundamental principles of law in order to form the legal system. 

A graduate knows:

  • A concept of  law and the functions, the theories of justice, basic principles,
  • Structure and types of Law norms, explanation methods, Law Ratio,
  • Law Language and Law Systems; Historical sources of Georgian law, separate fields and institutions of old Georgian law.
  • State arrangement and local self-government issues;
  • Basic human rights and freedoms;
  • International public law sources, basic principles, subjects of international law, international legal relations;
  • Private law system, general part of civil law (persons, arrangements, dates); Property (estate), law  (Estate,  ownership, property and other property rights); Liability law (general provisions, contractual and lawful liabilities); Family and Heritage Law;
  • Labor and Social Security Law (Labor and accompanying relations );
  • Modern corporation law (legal forms of persons and capital union);
  • The essence and principles of administrative law,  subjects of administrative relations, types of administrative proceedings and their implementation rules;
  • Basic concepts, principles and institutions, individual offences and peculiarities of criminal liability;
  • The principles of civil, administrative and criminal law, peculiarities of case proceedings in the court of various instances,
  • Legal professions ethics;
  • In addition, the graduate has the opportunity to study various major courses.
     

ABILITY TO USE KNOWLEDGE IN PRACTICE

A student is able to:

  • Use specific methods of law based on the knowledge received under the Bachelor's Program;
  • The obtained knowledge comply with the practical situation to identify and eliminate specific problems;
  • Identify law problems, search, explanation and use of normative bases for their solution;
  • Draw up legal content documents (normative act, contract, charter, complaint, appeal, etc.) in accordance with preliminarily defined instructions in the independent and/or minimum guidance.


ABILITY TO CONCLUDE

The student is able to: 

  • Based on the multilateral vision and analysis of the legal problem, the development of its solution plan and the justification of the selected approach;
  • Establish, explain, analyze, and substantiated conclusion of information containing legal significance.

 

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

The graduate is able to find information in native and at least one foreign language and use legal terminology to prepare a report and deliver information in oral and written form. He/she also can adequately utilize information-communication technologies.

ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

As a result of the choice of one of the foreign languages (English, German, French, Russian) offered by the program, the student has four language competences B2+: Listening, Reading, Speaking, Writing.

In particular:

  • Listening: Can understand/perceive and correct replication of large volume texts and expressions of legal content; Understanding the general direction of the conversation; Understanding the separate replicas of conversation; Understanding the essence of the report.
  • Reading: Can read the legal content texts, business letters, statements, newspaper articles, and learn basic content, gather the information needed in the first source language.  
  • Speaking: Can briefly convey facts about real events; Briefly convey the contents of the article; Consistent conveying of events; Express their own opinion; Characterization of the situation.
  • Writing: Can make business letters in accordance with the rules of writing; He/she has the ability to convey legal situations and their description in a written form in a relevant foreign language.

 

LEARNING SKILLS

Can analyze legislative amendments, court practices, scientific innovations. Has an ability to find information sources (bibliography, documents, websites, etc.), resources to obtain additional information. Is capable of independently enhancing knowledge and continuous renewal.

VALUES

During carrying out professional activities, he/she envisages general judgments and protects the professional ethical norms. Is ready to support the implementation of the rights of individuals and act on the basis of justice, human rights, social and democratic values.
