Content of study components of Journalism undergraduate program (university, speciality compulsory and elective, concentration compulsory and elective courses), considering the amount of teaching and learning methods and credits, ensures the achievement of the learning outcomes set out in this component and their combination ensures the achievement of the learning outcomes of the program at the appropriate level of the undergraduate level of the Higher Education Qualifications Framework. The learning outcomes of the program also ensure the competitiveness of graduates at the next level of education - the master's degree and the employment market.

 

Knowledge and Understanding

  • The Bachelor of Journalism program has extensive knowledge of theoretical and practical issues in social sciences (Mass Communication, Public Relations) and about a particular institution in the field of Journalism, including a critical understanding of the theories and principles and understanding of complex issues in the field/area. In particular student:
  • Has knowledge in the journalistic professional field, knows the basic concepts and terminology of journalism, the essence and role of journalism as a profession, know the principles, journalism, science, principles, basic theories, the content of professional and ethical standards;
  • Is familiar with mass media systems and recognizes their interdependence;
  • Knows theories of modern media development; Directions of the functioning of media systems; Forms and sources of funding for media institutions, specifics of media development and its contemporary challenges;
  • Knows the history of journalism, peculiarities and role of journalism at various stages of the development of society, including modern in Georgia, understands the way of developing Georgian publicist thinking, knows the creativity of Georgian editors and publicists.
  • Recognizes the peculiarities of the profession of journalism, recognizes the importance of protecting the journalist's accuracy and importance of verifying information; Balanced transmission of information. The student is familiar with the rules of turning current issues into modern journalism and formatting journalistic text.
  • Understands the importance of applying the norms of oral culture in professional practice. Has knowledge of the nature and norms of oral speech;
  • Has an extensive knowledge of publicist language and stylistics, knowledge of functionalist style and grammatical stylistic norms.
  • Understands the purpose and role of news journalism, know the basic principles of  journalism news, how to distinguish fact and comment in news, the structure of news reporting and the purpose of news broadcasting;
  • Has extensive knowledge in analytical journalism. Has a clear understanding of its purpose and role;
  • Knows the basic principles of media law and self-regulation. The graduate is familiar with the theses of international normative acts, laws in Georgia, which are directly related to the professional activity of the journalist.
  • Knows what PR is and advertising. The difference between them. Has studied the rules for achieving effective public relations, basic directions and classic models. Has knowledge of professional public relations ethics (international and national documents of professional conduct), practice in marketing PR, etc. The graduate is familiar with all kinds of advertising in the media, capable of effectively utilizing the psychological momentum of advertising, accessing the nuances of political and social advertising.
  • Has extensive knowledge of the sociology of journalism; Is aware of peculiarities of contemporary theories of journalism and sociology; The role of sociological studies in defining the essence of modern journalism. Is able to provide professional orientation in modern social space.
  • Understands the artistic aspect of photojournalism and understands the perspectives of media text visualization.
  • Has extensive knowledge of TV journalism, critical understanding of modern media theories and principles; Understands the peculiarities of the complex issues of television broadcasting.
  • Has knowledge of the principles of Internet journalism; Knowledge of techniques for obtaining, processing and verifying information through the internet (various sources, data, etc.);
  • Knows the tendencies in forecasting long-term trends in traditional and new media, demand for new media products.
  • Knows the essence of classical and modern political technologies used in the field of media, has a wide knowledge of professional markers and targeting.
