CHOOSING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE COURSE AND PASSING THE LINGUISTIC COMPETENCE MODULE

20 + 5 credits of foreign language component offered within the framework of all undergraduate educational programs: - 20 credits - Foreign language chosen by the student , 5 credits,  foreign language according to the field, chosen in accordance with the language and speciality.

The student chooses a foreign language course during academic registration. In accordance with its choice, the level of its language competence is determined, and the volume of the foreign language module will be determined, so that after completing the program, the student should achieve no less than B2.2 + level of competence in accordance with the Common European Communication Framework (CEFR).

DEFINING THE LEVEL OF LANGUAGE COMPETENCE

Students enrolled by the Unified National Exams who have passed the foreign language at the Unified National Exams, which they choose at the university, the level of access to the linguistic component shall be determined in accordance with the following national exam results: 

  • 86% and higher results of the Unified National Exams in a foreign language test,  will provide access to the B2 level of the foreign language course.
  • 61% - 85% of the results of the Unified National Exams in a foreign language test allows students to attend the B1 level foreign language course.
  • 30% - 60% results of the unified national exams in a foreign language test provides access to a student level A2 level foreign language course.
  •   30% of the results of the Unified National Exams in a foreign language test provide access to the A1 level foreign language course.

The student is entitled to request to be allowed on the course of higher language competence, in case of presenting the relevant certificate or/ and passing university tests.

The student has an opportunity to choose another foreign language course even in case if the student passed another foreign language test at the Unified National Exams.

In this case, the level of language competence and admission to the corresponding studying course is determined by the results of university tests.

In order to achieve the results provided by the foreign language bloc, the student has the opportunity to choose foreign language courses from the free credits.

 

DEFINING THE LINGUISTIC LEVEL WITH INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATES

Compatibility of International Certificate with the level of language competence required by the program is defined by the following scheme:

For the English language:

  1. Confirmation of A2 level language communication competence is considered: Cambridge English Key (KET), PTE General Level 1, PTE Academic 30-42;
  2. Confirmation of B1 level language communication competence is considered:  Cambridge English Preliminary (PET)б BEC Prelim, IELTS 4-4.5, TOEFL iBT 57-86, TOEIC 550, PTE General Level 2, PTE Academic 43-58, Trinity ISE I
  3. Confirmation of B2 level language communication competence is considered: Cambridge English First (FCE), BEC Vantage, IELTS 5-6.5, TOEFL iBT 87-109, Michigan ECCE, PTE General Level 3, PTE Academic 59-75, Trinity ISE II
  4. Confirmation of C1 level language communication competence is considered: Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) BEC Higher, IELTS 7-8, TOEFL iBT 110-120, TOEIC 880, PTE General Level 4, PTE Academic 76-84
