ACADEMIC COMPETITION IN MEDICINE

Georgian National University SEU is announcing an open competition for academic positions (Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor) for the English-language Higher Education Program in Medicine at the Medicine faculty for the following academic positions:

• In the direction of healthcare, within the framework of medical learning courses in the field of medicine - Professor - 4 vacancies, Assoc. Prof. - 2 vacancies, Assistant Professor - 2 vacancies
• In the direction of healthcare, in the major courses of internal medicine in the field of medicine - Professor - 5 vacancies; Associate Professor - 3 vacancies; Assistant Professor - 2 vacancies, Assistant - 1 vacancy
• In the direction of healthcare in the major courses of surgery in the field of Medicine- Professor - 2 vacancies; Associate Professor - 2 vacancies; Assistant Professor - 2 vacancies, Assistant - 1 vacancy
• 1 vacancy in the introduction of clinical courses in the field of healthcare - Professor; Associate Professor - 1 vacancy; Assistant Professor - 1 vacancy, Assistant - 1 vacancy
• In the direction of healthcare, within the framework of clinical and professional skills learning courses in the field of medicine - Professor - 1 vacancy, Assistant. Prof. - 1 vacancy
• In the field of healthcare, within the framework of the medicine and community learning course - Professor - 1 vacancy, Assistant. Prof. - 1 vacancy, Assistant - 1 vacancy
• In the healthcare direction, within the framework of research skills study course, in the field of Medicine. Professor - vacancy 1 Associate Professor - vacancy 2.

To participate in the competition, the contestant must meet the academic or professional relevance of the relevant competition vacancy, taking into account the following criteria:

For an Academic position of Professor:

Academic mark:

1. Academic degree of Doctor or equivalent scientific degree;
2. Experience of scientific-pedagogical work - experience of at least 6 years of scientific-pedagogical work in a higher education institution;
3. Authority / co-authorship of scientific publications published during the last 10 years in the field of relevant training courses;
4. Experience of clinical practice in the relevant medical speciality during the last 9 years (in clinical directions);
5. The vision of the implementation of the relevant educational program and experience in developing the educational program (syllabus).
6. Knowledge of English (at least B2) level for the implementation of the English language course.

Professional mark:

1. 1 Doctoral degree obtained abroad (in the US or European countries);
2. Experience in conducting scientific research abroad;
3. Experience of carrying out practical activities in Georgia and/or abroad in the relevant field;
4. Scientific publication/publications published during the last 10 years in the direction of the relevant learning course/courses;
5. Experience of scientific-pedagogical work - experience of at least 6 years of scientific-pedagogical work in a higher education institution;
6. Experience of clinical practice in the relevant medical specialty during the last 9 years (in clinical directions);
7. A vision for the implementation of the relevant field program and experience in developing an educational program (syllabus).
8. Knowledge of English (at least B2) level for conducting English language course.

For Associate Professor’s Academic Position:

Academic mark:

1. Academic degree of Doctor or equivalent scientific degree;
2. Experience of scientific-pedagogical work - experience of working in a higher education institution with an authorized or equal status for at least 3 years;
3. Experience of clinical practice in the relevant medical speciality during the last 5 years (in clinical directions);
4. Scientific publication/publications published during the last 10 years in the direction of the relevant learning course/courses;
5. Experience in developing a relevant curriculum (syllabus).
6. Knowledge of English (at least B2) level for conducting the English language course.

Professional mark: 

• Adequate professional experience in the field, which can be confirmed by one of the following features:
• With at least 5 years of work experience in the relevant field, related to practical work in leading positions in the medical field (the content of practical work should be in line with the content of the learning courses and at least 3 years of experience in pedagogical work in higher education;
• At least 3 years of experience in conducting practical or scientific-research or pedagogical activities abroad (in the USA and European countries).
• Experience of clinical practice in the relevant medical speciality during the last 5 years (in clinical directions);
• Scientific publication/publications published during the last 10 years in the direction of the relevant learning course/courses;
• A vision for the implementation of relevant study courses.
• Knowledge of English (at least B2) level for conducting the English language course.

For an Assistant Professor's Academic Position:

Academic mark:

• Academic degree of Doctor or equivalent scientific degree;
• Scientific publication/publications published during the last 10 years in the direction of the relevant study course/courses;
• Experience of clinical practice in the relevant medical speciality during the last 5 years (in clinical directions);
• A vision for the implementation of relevant study courses.
• Knowledge of English (at least B2) level for the implementation of the English language course.
  
  

Professional mark:

1. Adequate professional experience in the field - at least 5 years of work experience, which is related to practical work in the field of medicine (in the appropriate direction of the offered learning courses);
2. Scientific publication/publications published during the last 10 years in the field of relevant learning course/courses.
3. A vision for the implementation of relevant learning courses.
4. Knowledge of English (at least B2) level for the implementation of the English language course.

Additional criteria:

1. practical experience of working in the relevant field;
2. Participation in scientific conferences, scientific scholarships and grants;
3. Participation in professional development activities;
4. Experience in conducting English language courses in medicine.
    

Documents to be submitted for the competition:

• Application for participation in the competition with reference to the relevant academic position. (In the application should be indicated the relevant vacancy in the subject of the e-mail);
• An autobiography (CV) or a contestant's completed application form;
• Copy of identity document;
• Relevant documentation of the criteria established for the competition vacancy -  educational documents confirming qualification, information on professional experience, scientific papers published during the last 10 years, documentation confirming the competence of the contestant with additional criteria (optional).

Additionally:

For the position of Professor:

• Educational program development concept (description);
• A vision of learning courses to be conducted by the contestant (description and/or syllabus);

For Associate and Assistant Professor positions:

• A vision of learning courses to be conducted by the contestant (description and/or syllabus);

One of the following ways to confirm the competence of the contestant in English is:

• International Certificate - Cambridge FCE, IELTS 5 and more, TOEFL iBT 87-109,
• PTE General Level 3, PTE Academic 59-75, Trinity ISE II - Presentation;
• Presenting a document certifying supervising the course of study in an accredited English-language program or a document certifying higher education in English;
• Through passing university exam within the competition.
   

Stages of the competition:

• Selection of documents submitted by the contestants (without the attendance of contestants)
• Testing for English language proficiency (will be given to competitors who do not submit documents certifying English language teaching/learning or an internationally certified language certificate);
• Interview with the Competition Commission (may include a mock lecture)
   

Competition conditions:

• The competition application and relevant documents must be submitted within the timeframe for submission of competition documents.

Contestants will be selected:

• In the first stage - by determining the compliance of their applications with the main criteria
• In the second stage - with the confirmation of the language competence - for the contestants who do not submit the documents proving learning/teaching in English or the certificate confirming the language competence of the relevant level;
• In the third stage - by the Competition Commission with each of the main criteria of the contestant, and in case the number of contestants exceeds the number of relevant vacancies, with the compliance with the additional criteria.

The Commission is authorized to verify the accuracy of the information and documentation submitted by the contestant and/or to request the contestant to submit additional documentation. In case of requesting additional documents, the person will be allowed at the next stage of the competition with the condition of submitting the relevant documents.

We would like to inform you that your personal data will be processed by the Georgian National University SEU for the purpose of making a contractual agreement with you, including on the establishment of a labour relationship.

Timeframes of the competition:

• The competition is announced on May 18, 2020;
• Accepting the documents for those wishing to hold an academic position will take place from June 19 to June 25;
• The first stage of the competition - a selection of documents - will be held on June 28-29;
• The second stage of the competition - testing in English - will be held on June 30;
• The third stage of the competition - the interview with the competition commission - will be held on July 1 and 2 (the exact date and time of the interview will be announced to the candidate after the first stage of the competition).
• The list of participants who passed the contest will be published on July 3.
• Appeals will be accepted until July 5.
• Appeals will be heard on July 6.
• The final results of the competition will be announced on July 7.
