Georgian National University SEU’s Master’s students in Law — Mariam Mchedlishvili, Mariam Shekeladze, and Giorgi Gabadze — are currently attending a fully funded summer school program in Italy, at Lake Como, supported entirely by SEU. This year’s summer school focuses on the theme: “Critical Issues in Environmental Law from a Comparative Perspective: Responsibility for Climate Change and the Rights of Future Generations.” Our students share how significant this opportunity is for them and what expectations they have regarding this unique professional development platform, which has now become a tradition at SEU. It is noteworthy that this is the second consecutive year SEU students have participated in this summer school with full funding. Mariam Okromchedlishvili - “This experience will be not only a stage of academic growth for me but also a foundation to actively apply the knowledge gained in future practical and research activities. It will contribute to the development of environmental law in Georgia, particularly in the context of the country's alignment with the European Union. Additionally, I plan to share the knowledge gained from this course both in educational settings and through civic engagement — so that more young people get involved in legal discourse centered on the environment and justice.” Mariam Shekeladze - “The European Green Deal is a concept and a value system. Law serves as the mechanism for preserving, enhancing, and implementing these values in practice. The summer school at Lake Como, whose theme this year centers on critical issues in environmental law from a comparative perspective, directly contributes to the internationalization of these values. I hope to gain essential knowledge, experience, and practical skills that I will share with colleagues and all interested parties upon my return to Georgia.” Giorgi Gabadze- “The summer school in Italy, at Lake Como, represents a unique opportunity for me to deepen my understanding of contemporary approaches in environmental law — especially in the context of legal regulation of climate change and protection of the rights of future generations. This program enables me to explore international practices and landmark decisions that promote sustainable development.
