General Information on the meeting:

Throughout its existence, the mankind is concerned with the question of the meaning and purpose of human life - what is the thing, for which it is worth to come to this life and what can be the purpose of our life. All epochs, religions or civilizations gave specific answers to this question. The Egyptian and Mesopotamian cultures used to create the illusion of becoming immortal using various means. In this regard, the antiquity offered us its own approach, which originated from the Homeric epos.

Instead of physical immortality, Homer creates an alternative way, which is expressed in the concept of gaining immortal fame and glory – Κλέος. The necessity to gain fame was questioned only once by Marcus Aurelius and the Stoicists. In the post-ancient world, during the Renaissance period, the Homeric concept was brought back again, which is depicted not only in European, but also in Georgian reality, when Shota Rustaveli says that ‘’it is better to win fame than anything that can be won’’ and he maintains this belief throughout the whole poem.
