The unity of the Tourism's BA Program Components (university mandatory, elective and foreign language, compulsory and elective study courses, practice and research component of a concentration), according to their content, learning and teaching methods and amount of credits, that provides an achievement of the study results considering by the program, with an appropriate level of Bachelor degree or  Higher Education qualification framework. The learning outcomes of the program also ensure the competitiveness of graduates in post-graduate education and employment markets.

 

Knowledge and understanding

The Bachelor of Tourism program has extensive knowledge of the field of business administration and the field of tourism, which includes a critical understanding of theories and principles and understanding of the complex issues in the field, in particular:

After completing the undergraduate program in the block of Business Administration, the student:

•    Has an extensive knowledge that includes the basic principles and models of Business, has understood the importance of studying the Business, its role in developing society and functions; Knows the basic concepts, terms, used in the field of Business and requirements of living law;

•    The student knows how to determine the general regularity of functioning of a market economy; Market demand-supply, equilibrium, prices; Forms of market organization; Characterization of commodity, workforce and capital markets; General principles of organizing the country's economy; Basic rules and mechanisms of functioning of the economy of the country as a unified system;

•    Basic Theoretical Provisions of Macroeconomics;

•    Knows the elements of set theory; Formulation of some economic tasks (demand-supply analysis, production planning, optimal spending of resources, defining sale price of goods and optimal values of income); Knows on the concepts of function, monotony, oddity, and periodicity, knows the definition of limit and continuity of function;

•    The student has an extensive knowledge in management, which includes the basic concepts and models of management, understands the importance of management studies, its purpose and functions in the development of society, knows the basic concepts used in management, terms and requirements of the living legislation;

•    The student is familiar with the essence, methods and accounting policies of accounting; Principles of accounting; Classification of economic resources (assets, equity and liabilities);

•    The student has a piece of extensive knowledge in marketing, is familiar with the basic concepts, terms and applicable laws of marketing.

•    The student knows the essence and functions of finance, the financial system; The content and importance of financial policy; The essence of finance management, financial management bodies and their functions;

•    The student has extensive knowledge of the role and importance of human resources, human resource management in the implementation of the firm strategy;

•    Has extensive knowledge of the specifics of business ethics, basic theories, concepts, principles that underpin the right and ethical decisions in the entrepreneurial process.

 

After completing the undergraduate program in the block of Tourism, the student

•    The student is aware of the role of tourism in human life and the demands/expectations of consumers towards tourism services. Basic concepts and types of tourism, the structure of the tourism industry;

•    Tourism management categories studied tourism as a management object, tourism management system.

•    The student knows the peculiarities of realizing the concept of marketing in tourism; Principles of Tourism Market Segmentation; Criteria for evaluating the tourism product target market;

•     The student has extensive knowledge of the international tourism industry, including a critical understanding of tourism development history, key facts, definitions, principles and processes. Has studied the global and regional aspects of international tourism development.

•    Knows the essence of tour design, its importance for the successful functioning of a travel firm; Knows the key aspects of a tourism enterprise's activities; Travel itinerary technology; Student is aware of the features of the functioning of a tourism firm;

•    Has extensive knowledge of the subject and objectives of tourism geography, is familiar with research sites and is well-known for sightseeing. Studied the tourist areas, their hierarchy and typology.

•    Knows the general principles of hotel business development, hotel classification, hotel structure, hotel staff functions, modern service technologies;

•    The student has knowledge of the strategic tourism resources in the different regions of Georgia and the routes they take;

•    The student knows the basic principles of functioning of an important segment of tourism in the international and regional tourism market - cultural tourism; Understood the role and place of cultural tourism in international travellers; Explored the cultural tourism market.

•    Realized the importance of the place and role of tourism as a priority sector in the economic development of the country, as a factor of economic integration and globalization; Knows the theoretical aspects of developing and implementing business plans in the field of tourism.

•    The student has the following knowledge:

•    On the strategic tourism resources in the various regions of Georgia and the routes leading to them; Has knowledge of defining the qualitative characteristics of the natural - recreational and resort - tourism potential of Georgia's tourism resources.

•    By choosing one of the foreign languages (English, German, French, Russian) offered by the program, the student is familiar with the B 2 level foreign language tourism-related terminology; Rules and methods of writing business communications and negotiating communications; The student knows how to communicate in the tourism industry; Understands the principles of peculiarities of speech in a foreign language.  Studied the language of tourism, generally learned tourism as a business and at the same time becoming familiar with the tourism culture of foreign countries.

•    The student has mastered the basic principles of academic writing; Received the basic knowledge needed to create a written text.

 

The ability to use knowledge in practice

A graduate of Tourism Bachelor Degree may use  business administration and tourism industry-specific areas and some of the distinctive methods to solve problems, undertake research or practical project by following predefined guidelines, as reflected in the following competencies:

•    The student can build the business plan independently and find the source for funding his/her activity;

•    The student can identify, evaluate, and generalize the theoretical problems of functioning of a market economy; the Ability to ask and argue the issues related to the functioning of the market economy at the micro-level.

•    Makes appropriate calculations, comparisons based on statistics to determine the level of economic development of the countries; Can use the knowledge gained to solve the specific tasks and carry out economic activities;

•    The student can determine the strategic direction of the organization's development; Understand changes in managerial decisions and write mathematical models of problem analytical and economic tasks;

•    Performing operations on matrices and determinants; Determining the essence and meaning of the function definition, the monotonicity intermediates, the oddity, and linearity; Calculate function thresholds and set breakpoints;

•    The student can identify the feasibility of using marketing in entrepreneurial activities;

•    The student can describe the accounting system; Outlining key postulates of international accounting standards;

•    The student can make practical solutions to problems in the field of finance; Characterization of financial policy features; Defining the socio-economic nature and role of the state budget;

•    The student can participate in determining staff requirements and working with them based on relevant instructions;

•    Is able to develop individual styles in business relationships and to demonstrate their managerial skills.

•    The student can evaluate the main types/destinations of tourism and engage them in the planning of the tour, in the tourism enterprise can plan activities, organize and distribute resources.

•    Students can obtain, process and analyze marketing information; Tourism Market Marketing Research Organization; Positioning the tour product on the market;

•    Can plan and execute a tour, utilizing an expert evaluation methodology of processes in the field of transnational tour operator companies; Uses methodological aspects of technology acquisition/processing of information on and processing of tourism business processes;

•    Can identify, contrast, evaluate, generalize, compare, and problem-solve information/materials related to tourism enterprise management.

•    Can group results, master new innovative travel routes, bookmark travel routes, and adhere to safety rules while travelling.

•    Can manage hotel and lodging facilities; Identification and analysis of technical and organizational problems (accommodation, transport, catering and other hotel services);

•    Students can select and evaluate international tourism resource potential; Adherence to international tourist safety rules; Defining the rights of international tourists;

•    Can classify cultural heritage sites and use them effectively in the formulation of tourism products; Outlining the features of cultural tourism and their formulation;

•    Has an ability to plan the activities of a tourism organization in the business environment; Analysis and synthesis of financial information in tourism enterprises.

The student can: Apply acquired theoretical knowledge in the tourism business, develop skills in selecting attractive tourist attractions in the regions of Georgia. Can group results, master new innovative travel routes, bookmark travel routes, and adhere to safety rules while travelling.

 

Competence of communication in a foreign language

Also, by choosing one of the foreign languages offered by the program (English, German, French, Russian), the student has all four B 2 language competencies: listening, reading, speaking, writing, namely:

•    Listening: Can understand/perceive and correct replication of large volume texts and expressions of Tourism content; Understanding the general direction of the conversation; Understanding the separate replicas of conversation; Understanding the essence of the report.

•    Reading: Can read the original texts (related to tourism issues), business letters, statements, newspaper articles, And understand basic content; Allocate necessary information.

•    Speaking: Can briefly convey facts about real events; Briefly convey the contents of the article; Consistent conveying of events; Express their own opinion; Characterization of the situation.

•    Writing: Can make business letters by following the rules of writing; He/she can convey the situations in the field of tourism and their description in a written form in a relevant foreign language.

 

Ability to conclude

Graduates of the Bachelor of Tourism can collect and explain data relevant to the field of business administration and the field of tourism, as well as analyze data and / or situations using standard and some distinctive methods, and provide reasoned conclusions:

•    The student can obtain and understand the information needed for doing business, taking into account the requirements of time and space, general analysis of the business environment and drawing relevant conclusions;

•    Can collect, define and analyze macroeconomic data. Finding out what GDP growth rates in the country are for years, how the unemployment rate deviates from the natural level, the degree of openness of the national economy and the degree of integration into the world economy, can provide information and its understanding needed to carry out governance activities  taking into account the requirements of time and space;

•    General analysis of the business environment and drawing relevant conclusions;

•    Development of measures and action plans that should  be implemented; Foresee the results and concluding;

•    Can analyze and predict quantitatively the economics and business development using statistical methods; using of statistical methods of variational analysis; Students can assess general accounting issues, choose forms and methods for solving them; Obtaining, sorting, analyzing and synthesizing information from various sources; Generalization of a new information; Formulate accounting results and draw conclusions.

•    Provides information on employment, unemployment, effective use of the workforce systematizes it and makes a reasoned conclusion after understanding and analyzing the results;

•    Able to identify, divide, compare, formulate results, and argumentative defence of your their opinion in the field of human resources management.

•    Has the ability to analyze, structure and solve problems facing an organization in the field of tourism, as well as the ability to design and manage projects, the ability to implement and control a quality assurance system;

•    Able to formulate proper conclusions of tourism market research results based on relevant data analysis and make appropriate conclusions;

•    Can draw the right conclusion in the geography of tourism. Has the ability to collect, interpret, analyze, and analyze data and / or situations specific to the field of tourism Geology;

•    Can collect and interpret data, as well as review generalized data and situations using standard (observation, analysis) and separate methods (GIS systems);

•    Has the ability to predict and evaluate hotel business problems;

•    Can collect and clarify data on international tourism; Monitor the number of incoming and outgoing tourists, accommodation, catering, use of leisure time (etc.) using standard field-specific methods and drawing their conclusions;

•     Can identify the competence of the aspects of the process of obtaining and processing information and the realization of aspects of the processes in the cultural tourism sector and to draw individual conclusions. Determine the degree of influence of the historical and heritage characteristics of the countries in the segmental studies of cultural tourism by the analytical method and draw conclusions based on the use of statistical methods.

•    Can collect information on tourism resources of Georgian regions, involve them in tourist routes and draw reasonable conclusions.

•    Can identify alternative tourism routes and justify decisions - protect; Analyze the trends and prospects of Georgia's tourism and resort industry development.

 

Communication skills

Students can prepare detailed written reports on ideas, problems and solutions, and transmit information to specialists and non-specialists in Georgian and foreign languages, and use modern information and communication technologies creatively:

•    The student can communicate on business administration issues and participate in discussions using appropriate argumentation and terminology. Freely uses modern information and communication technologies to obtain and transmit information needed in the field of business.

•    Can communicate with business partners, customers and other entities on economic issues using information technology, to argue and persuade economic issues in an oral and written form.

•    The student can prepare and submit a written report on tourism to the professional community.

•     The student can participate in professional discussions, to prepare a written report and oral presentation in both their native and foreign languages; Use of technological and communication equipment, computing techniques, mastering of new information technologies.

•     Based on the knowledge gained, the student enters into a discussion and participates in professional arguments with appropriate argumentation and terminology. Freely uses modern information and communication technologies to retrieve and transmit information related to tourism and tourism centres.

•    Can interact with organization members, management staff and other stakeholders.

•    Can conduct business meetings and negotiations; Making optimal governance decisions in the field of tourism.

•    The student can communicate in a foreign language using the vocabulary of the tourism sector. Is Familiar with and fluent in modern information and communication technologies (ICT), possesses multimedia competence that promotes their creative and critical use in a field-specific context.

 

Learning Ability - The student can consistently and multilaterally evaluate their learning process, identifying further learning needs, in particular:

•    To understand specific problems and ways to solve them in business and tourism, they can deepen their knowledge by using available literature and available resources.

•    Assess their knowledge and make a well-reasoned decision to continue their studies.

•    Understands the need to continually enhance knowledge in learning and development as a condition for success in the profession; Realized the need for continuing education.

•    Identifies the priorities, plans and allocates work and pursues goals. Can perform his / her duties without extra supervision; Distributes tasks and finds ways to accomplish them. Can identify further learning needs and pursue high-quality independent studies. Knows the tactics of working with field related literature and can set priorities in the right direction and identify the needs for further study in all areas offered by the program.

•    Searching for the sources of information (bibliographies, documents, web pages), while identifying the real source, the student manages and evaluates his / her learning with the help of available resources.

•    Participates in the formulation and evaluation of resources and values in cultural tourism and contributes to the creation of values;

•    Professional activities are carried out with respect and defences historical and cultural heritage. It has multi-cultural values, protects and promotes its establishment.

•    The student can adhere to professional ethical norms in studying the tourism market and making relevant forecasts.

•    Participates in the formation and evaluation of tourism resources and values and contributes to the creation of values, adequately assesses the cultural characteristics of tourism resources; Participates in the process of selecting Georgian tourism resources, identifying qualitative characteristics (attractiveness).
