A delegation from SEU, including Rector Mr. Gia Kavtelishvili, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Mr. Giorgi Ghavtandze and Vice-Rector for Finance and Resources Mr. Levan Kalandarishvili made a business visit to the capital city of Tashkent, Uzbekistan on November 2-5, 2021, where SEU plans to open a branch, and start receiving students from the academic year of 2022-23.
During the business visit, the SEU delegation met and entered into negotiations with the Deputy Minister of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr. Rahim Hakimov and the Head of International Relations Department Mr. Shukhrat B. Urunbaev.
The SEU delegation also met with the Head of the State Inspectorate for Supervision of Quality in Education Mr. Ulugbek Tashkenbaev and the Head of Directorate-General of Quality Assurance Mr. Asliddin Odilov.
During the meeting, the hosts discussed the major reforms taking place in Uzbekistan, with a primary focus on attracting leading foreign universities to the country’s educational system.
As part of the meeting, legal aspects concerning the opening of a SEU branch was discussed and the Uzbek counterparts promised to provide proper support from the Ministry of Higher Education as well as the local authorities.
For his part, SEU Rector Mr. Gia Kavtelishvili extended his thanks to his Uzbek colleagues for their support, and expressed his full readiness for further implementation of the above-mentioned project.
In parallel with Uzbekistan, SEU branches are also scheduled to open in Poland and Ukraine.
