The Award Ceremony of the Winners in the Competition “I Write an Independent Essay 2022”

On June 4, the award ceremony of the winners in the competition “I Write an Independent Essay 2022” took place at SEU.

Up to 750 students from various schools across Georgia participated in the competition, and 122 contestants advanced to the finale. Due to fierce contention and high quality of essays in the final round, instead of ten participants, the competition jury declared 15 contestants as winners: 3 Absolute, 8 Outstanding and 4 Excellent categories. Something unexpected happened in the final round that left the jury members surprised, in particular the three contestants demonstrated the identical results. Accordingly, by the decision of the competition jury, all three contestants were awarded the first place and the same amount of cash prize were given by the chief sponsor of the competition.

The three winners of the competition:

  • Nino Khidasheli - Tbilisi Public School N191; Teacher - Marina Sinauridze
  • Nini Kandelaki - St. Gabriel Bishop’s Clergy School Georgian Patriarchate; Teacher - Tea Asieshvili
  • Luka Berishvili - Private School Iveroni; Teacher - Ekaterine Katsitadze

The winning three students received 1000 GEL from SEU and their teachers were awarded 700 GEL respectively. Additionally, all three teachers were awarded 500 GEL respectively by the Educators and Scientists Free trade Union of Georgia.

The winners and their teachers were awarded by Bakur Sulakauri Publishing House, Intellect, Georgian Herald and Pegasi with various excellent book packages and gift vouchers.

In addition to the 15 winners, the jury selected 19 other participants as the Choice of the Jury, whose essays, along with the entries of the winners, will be published in a special collection and the Georgian society will have the opportunity to learn about our students’ talents, culture of thinking and expression.

The event was attended by the heads of the Education and Science Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Giorgi Amilakhvari and Tamar Taliashvili through the Zoom platform. They congratulated the contestants and their teachers on their success and revealed that the winning students would be invited to Parliament.

The guest of honor at the ceremony was Tamar Makharashvili, First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, who congratulated the winners on their success and presented prizes to the top three contestants. Ms. Makharashvili announced that she would invite the successful contestants to the meeting and the Ministry would assist the relevant schools in implementing the most interesting visions and projects put forward by them.

The award ceremony was led by Gia Murghulia, the author of the competition “I write an Independent Essay” and the chairman of the jury, who thanked the chief sponsor and organizer of the competition  Georgian National University SEU and other sponsors, namely the Ministry of Education and Science, National Center for Teacher Professional Development, National Library and Georgian Public Broadcaster for their contributions.

The competition is annual and will be held next year as well.
