On July 20-21, 2023, associate professor of Georgian National University SEU, director of the European Integration Research Center – Irakli Samkharadze participated in the 28th World Law Congress organized by the World Jurist Association and the World Law Foundation, which was hosted by the United States of America in New York, at the headquarter of the United Nations and at the Bar Association of the New York State.
The World Law Congress is held once in every two years and more than 300 statesman, lawyers, advocates, judges and law specialists from different disciplines participate in it in order to review the global condition of the rule of law and the most recent challenges existing in the field of law.
This year, lots of high rank officials have attended the event, among them were Antonio Guterres (the Secretary General of the United Nations), Felipe VI (King of Spain), Justin Trudeau (Prime Minister of Canada), Rowan Wilson (the Chief Judge of the New York State), Susan Coleman (President of the Bar Association of the New York State), Guillermo Lasso (President of Ecuador etc.
The President of the European Commission - Ursula Von Leyen attended the event with special status, who was awarded with the World Peace and Liberty Medal in the name of the European Union. The Medal of Honor was also awarded to other persons from the United States of America, Europe, Canada and South America distinguished in the field of the world law.
Irakli Samkharadze was invited to the World Law Congress with the status of a speaker, where he was sent on the official mission with the support of the University and where he gave a speech in front of the world law society. In parallel to the progress of the event, meetings were held with the executive director of the World Jurist Association (WJA) and with the Head of the Corporate Relations, where they discussed the perspectives of founding of the permanent mission of the Association in Georgia.
